OpenAI has created an AI model for longevity science

OpenAI has developed GPT-4b micro, an AI model designed to optimize protein engineering for transforming regular cells into stem cells, significantly boosting the efficiency of reprogramming processes. This collaboration with Retro Biosciences, funded by Sam Altman, aims to extend human lifespan and demonstrates AI's potential in advancing longevity science.

OpenAI Now Allows Phone Number-Only ChatGPT Signups

OpenAI is testing a feature that allows new ChatGPT users in the U.S. and India to sign up using only a phone number, eliminating the need for an email address. However, these accounts cannot upgrade to paid plans or enable multi-factor authentication without email verification, and once a phone number is used, it cannot be reused for another account.

🚀 Tech Industry Moves

TSMC CEO C.C. Wei has refuted recent speculations about Nvidia reducing its demand for TSMC's Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate (CoWoS) packaging capacity, affirming that both companies continue to thrive amid the AI boom. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, also indicated that while the demand for TSMC's advanced packaging technology remains strong, Nvidia's specific technological needs are evolving, transitioning from CoWoS-S to CoWoS-L for their latest AI chips.

Google has utilized large language models (LLMs) to expedite internal code migrations, achieving significant time reductions. For instance, the transition from JUnit3 to JUnit4 was completed in three months, involving 5,359 files and 149,000 lines of code, with approximately 87% of AI-generated code committed without changes, resulting in an estimated 50% time savings.

Microsoft has restructured its engineering organization to form the "CoreAI - Platform and Tools" division, consolidating the Developer Division, AI Platform, and select teams from the Office of the CTO. Led by Jay Parikh, this new group aims to develop an end-to-end AI stack for both first-party and third-party applications, emphasizing the creation and deployment of AI applications and agents.

Nvidia has introduced three new NeMo Inference Microservices (NIMs) to assist enterprises in implementing AI agents with enhanced control and safety measures. One of these services focuses on content safety, aiming to prevent AI agents from generating harmful or biased outputs.

Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine, has acquired professional social media platform Read.cv, which will wind down operations starting January 19, with user data export available until May 16. Founded in 2021 by ex-Facebook designer Andy Chung, Read.cv offered tools for professional networking, team profiles, and personal websites with “.cv” domains, which will transition to Hello.cv.
